Abstract

The rise of information technology has offered numerous opportunities for businesses and institutions. It has transformed the way citizens access information and services, creating economic opportunities. However, this rapid expansion comes with challenges, such as cyber threats, which are also evolving. To ensure the security of services and information for users, businesses and institutions must take measures to address them. In this article, we study cyber threats in West African cyberspace, associated cybercrime and its effects, and the defense strategies of businesses and institutions. Our study uses content analysis as the primary data source to analyze cybercrime in West Africa, threats, and the defense strategies of public institutions. Because security is a highly sensitive area, we were unable to find any specific studies on the defense strategies of private companies. However, there are recommendations for protecting their infrastructure and data.
